Yacht surveys - Frequently asked questions

Some of the questions we are asked most often:

Q. What type of survey should I have before buying a boat?
A. In almost all cases when purchasing a second hand boat, you should have a Full condition Survey and Valuation.

Q. Can the boat stay in the water for the survey?
A. It is a vital part of the survey that the underwater areas should be examined. We can arrange for this at the purchaser’s expense if required.

Q. My boat has been damaged, what should I do?
A. Firstly, do whatever is necessary to minimise any further damage. Your insurers are entitled to expect that you will do everything possible to minimise the claim, and to inform them at the earliest opportunity. We are frequently asked by insurers to assist with salvage and supervise repairs.

Q. My insurers have asked me for an up to date survey on my own boat, what type of survey should I have?
A. Again in almost all cases, a full condition survey will be what they require. If in doubt ask them first.
